Last week ended with a judgement in the Tribunal worth 100’s of thousands of pounds on an Equal pay claim. The defendant was the BBC, the employee was Sumira Ahmed. The £700,000 claim arose when she claimed equal pay with Jeremy Vine, and while she only receives £440 per episode, the claim goes back years and amounts to a staggering sum.
After the Employment Tribunal has ruled that “ethical veganism” is a philosophical belief, employers are reminded that as well discrimination against those who believe in established religions being protected, anyone with a philosophical belief is also protected.
